Intangibles

**The grain may be slightly nutty, but the whiskey is entirely serious**

Lesser known grain makes BOLD STATEMENT in this tasty whiskey

  • Batch No. 001, Bottle#4976
  • 46% ABV
  • 10 Years old

Like the key ingredient in the whiskey, Bat Masterson was of the west. A buffalo hunter, U.S. Marshall, gambler and newspaperman, Masterson was a man of refined character who would've loved the pleasing complexity of this whiskey.

Crafted with choice Canadian barley and mineral-laden glacial water, this whisky was double distilled in order to preserve the barley's full flavor. It was then aged for 10 years resulting in a taste that's earthy, oaky, and subtly sweet.

The taste is reminiscent of a scotch which is surprising. But, like a scotch it is smooth from the get-go. The oaky flavors shine through the most but the smooth sweetness is there in the undertones. Bat Masterson definitely would have approved of this badass, strong whiskey. While it wasn't what I was expecting, this is a great whisky for those of us who don't want to switch to scotch. I give it a 7/10 but mostly because it wasn't what I expected.

It's hard to know where to start... didn't know much about Masterson. I tried the whisky, I tasted the oak, and it was great. Smooth, light and easy to drink. BUT! Then I watched the Bat Masterson video on Bat Masterson, and I now understand why Bat was the inspiration for such a fine whisky. The video, courtesy of the YouTube channel Studies Weekly, shed light on the renaissance man that is Mr. Masterson. truly a remarkable man that is the mascot for a remarkable whisky. I would give it a hearty 9/10. A fine whisky with a capacity to invigorate those who drink it with the spirit of Bat Masterson. Bat Masterson... it's just fun to say!

8.8/10

A taste that lives up to the legend behind the bottle. BOLD, smooth and mischievous. A glass with a pleasurable ability to traverse both time and space, and quite possibly memory. The earthly subtleties combined with the oaky nature of this whiskey features a nostalgic kick to a distant time that may or may not have ever taken place. It is a reminder of the connectedness of us and nature, and leaves a memorable grin next to an empty glass. For the above reasons and the relishing feeling of pouring another, I give Masterson's an 8.8/10. After familiarizing myself with the history of you, Mr. Bat Masterson, the next bottle will be toasted to your long lasting, and never forgotten spirit. Loved by everyone.
