Intangibles

The Outstanding Irish Spirit
  • 46% ABV
  • Aged 7 years
  • Nose: Sweet with hints of cinnamon, orange zest, and vanilla ice cream. Touches of meadow flowers.
  • Taste: Silky Smooth with returning orange zest tones to the fore. Creme brulee and dark chocolate mix with malts and oak before giving way to a light, spicy white pepper as the warmth expands.
  • Finish: Luxurious and lingering as both spicy and sweet notes marry and stay into a long tail. In here is everything you'd expect, and more, from the perfect sipping whisky.

8/10

The intangibles and packaging gets you excited about the potential of this single malt. And after reading you know why. The orange is ever prevalent in this whisky that tastes more like a scotch than an Irish. You taste the burnt vanilla sugar of creme brulee as an after taste and every flavor it promises is delicious. Like a scotch, this should be savored on special occasions and not crushed in one night. But overall I give it an 8/10. A good scotch, not necessarily a whisky.

9/10

I've never been more wooed by a whisky bottle's write up than I was here. It was almost sensual in nature, and in that sense, I believe it attributed that much more to the overall flavor and enjoyability of this whisky. To be honest, it was a pleasant surprise. I grabbed it from Craven's Liquor on the way home from work, thinking we needed to try more in the way of Irish Whisky, so I got this and, boy, was it good. It lived up to its nose, taste, and finish, and was one of the finest sipping whiskies I've enjoyed to date. 9/10.
